58% Season Record Still Going Strong

NFL Week 9 in Retrospect

This week’s Sir Rebral Seven clocked in at 3-3-1. Even if it’s not a sweep, it still adds to an impressive season record of 58% for the Sir Rebral Seven. Allow me to walk you through where my calculations led to success and where they led me astray.

The Sir Rebral Seven

🔄SIR REBRAL SELECT: CHI @ NO OVER 41

Cerebral Index Rating: 98 (out of maximum 100)

This game was wild. Tied neck-in-neck at the half (14-14), it ended up in a push (24-17). The Bears moved the ball pretty well most of the game, but repeatedly shot themselves in the foot thanks to 5 turnovers. To make matters worse, the Saints were not fully capitalizing on their mistakes. They had a chance to get the score over 41 at the end, but missed a medium length FG. Good selection, brutal not to win it.

SIR REBRAL SELECT: NYG @ LV Under 37.5

Cerebral Index Rating: 98 (out of maximum 100)

This one ended up being a lot closer than I would have liked. The Raiders offense exploded for the first time all season in the first half, scoring 24 points! The Giants could not get much going on offense. Daniel Jones’ early injury forced them to use third stringer Tommy Devito. This selection worked out, but not exactly in the way I imagined it, because (I’ll say it again) the Raiders scored 30 points!

SIR REBRAL SELECT: MIA +2 v KC (Germany)

Cerebral Index Rating: 97 (out of maximum 100)

If I had a crystal ball and had been able to see the Chiefs’ offense scoring only a measly 14 points, I would have been ecstatic to pick the Dolphins. But I’m not clairvoyant. I’m the numbers guy. I don’t select by my gut, I go by the numbers. Despite Miami getting to Germany way earlier in the week than KC, they were not sharper, like I anticipated. In an unfortunate 21-14 loss to the Chiefs, the Dolphins dropped a lot of passes and simply did not execute in this game. While my assessment still rings true that the Chiefs offense has downgraded, their defense is way better than I could have ever foreseen. They really watered down Miami’s offense, even without their leader Nick Bolton.

SIR REBRAL SELECT: LAR @ GB Under 39

Cerebral Index Rating: 97 (out of maximum 100)

This game was never a sweat with Matthew Stafford out for the game. Brett Rypien could not lead a single touchdown drive, en route to a 20-3 ugly loss in the rain to the lowly Packers. Two terrible offenses in the rain makes for a slam dunk under!

SIR REBRAL SELECT: ATL -4 v MIN

Cerebral Index Rating: 97 (out of maximum 100)

The Falcons knocked out Jaren Hall early in the game, allowing the much more solid Josh Dobbs to come in and save the day. This shouldn’t have even been close, but the Falcons still found themselves up 28-24 at the end. Unfortunately their defense failed, and Dobbs marched the Vikings down the field for a game winning drive. This weird dynamic, with the slated backup QB in Dobbs, actually gave them a better chance to win. The Falcons defensive, albeit pretty solid up until this point, had a heartbreaking breakdown in this matchup.

SIR REBRAL SELECT: CAR +3 v IND

Cerebral Index Rating: 96 (out of maximum 100)

The Panthers could only muster up 13 points against a Colts team that had given up an insane amount of points the last several games. In a shocking turn of events, the Colts only gained 200 yards of offense and somehow still won. But a bad selection by me really means another data point to consider for future weeks. Where I went wrong will be where I improve.

SIR REBRAL SELECT: LAC -3.5 @ NYJ

Cerebral Index Rating: 96 (out of maximum 100)

As predicted, the Chargers won this game handily, amassing 8 sacks against a very shaky offensive line of the Jets. LA’s offense wasn’t dominant by any means –– they barely gained over 200 yards. But their defense was great, and special teams got them a touchdown to get them plenty of breathing room en route to a 27-6 victory.

🙅‍♂️SIR REBRAL STAY AWAY🙅‍♂️: CLE -8 v ARI

Don’t touch this spread!

I had my doubts about Clayton Tune, but his performance was far worse than I could ever have expected. The Cardinals gained less than 100 yards of offense the entire game, ending in a brutal 27-0.
